From the Desk
of the Editor
Dear Family
in Christ,
Grace and
peace be with you all in the name of Jesus, the Christ. Thinking out-loud,
I ask myself: how can I even begin to write of what has been such an
overwhelmingly graceful year in a single page? Moreover: how can
I, as Editor, even make a decent attempt at capturing some of those most
pivotal moments that have graced the RCC over the year in a simple
Newspaper? I’ve concluded that I will not be successful in any
comprehensive manner in either attempt; I have further concluded that
this is the very reason to truly give thanks!
This Edition
of Pax Press Newspaper is ultimately about something so much bigger than
any of us; and yet, ironically, the miracle that overwhelms any attempt
to “be captured” in the written word is a tiny baby boy. Can we every
truly understand the Reality found in the Person whose birth we mark: God
the Son birthed an infant Nazarene in the womb of young girl. To the ears
of the world this Reality elicits a clear: WHAT? How much more ridiculous
a concept can we gather than one which holds that the Maker of Heaven and
Earth was born in a barn, cow dung and all?!?! Marking this holy season as
Christian people, it is in this very absurdity that we come
to know the unconditional love God has for us in Jesus Christ.
We
prayerfully await the birth of this Holy One in his Advent, illumined by
the wax of four blessed candles by which we keep vigil of his coming. This
anticipation, friends, draws nearer to an end in Church Calendar with
every word I write. The Spirit of Advent, however, is at the very heart
of every day of our lives in Christ. We are called to await his presence
in every moment of our existence; to seek him, to find him and to be
found by him –as Ignatius instructs us- in all things. This is
the perpetual “Advent-ure” that we embody everyday, in communion with the
entire Cloud of Witnesses, in living other-centered lives of ministry.
In the good
news of the graced ministries of the RCC are where we would do well to
reflect during this time and in this Spirit. May the pages of this Edition
of Pax Press Newspaper enkindle in our hearts the fruit of joy in our
communion; sisters and brothers united in the heart of Christian life as
the Reformed Catholic Church. And finally, let it be our corporate prayer
that our lives of Advent-ure bear God’s continued blessing as we mark the
New Year!
Faithfully
Yours in The Word made Flesh,
Father Abair
