International Conference of Independent Catholic Communities
We are charged to be Shepherds, not Judges!
The world of Independent, Old, and Orthodox Catholicism can, for many people, seem like a very lonely island. In many cases, there is little -- or no -- communication with other like minded churches. Far too often, many churches are not aware of other independent movements in their community. Other times, there is a sense of competition that serves only to hinder growth, credibility and relationships. Recognizing the immediate need and desire for real unity and outreach among the various Independent, Old and Orthodox Catholic Churches, The Reformed Catholic Church has developed an outreach program that seeks to bring together the clergy and laity of these churches, and those who support them, so that relationships based on mutual respect and understanding can develop and be nurtured. The International Conference of Independent Catholic Communities (ICICC) is a new program sponsored by The Reformed Catholic Church and is open to all Clergy and Laity of Independent Catholic and Orthodox Churches – and those in other Christian Faith Communities who support them -- who are committed to building positive relationships and involvement in ecumenical outreach. It is not necessary that we agree on all things, but members of the ICICC must be committed to the words of St. Augustine of Hippo: In matters of essentials, Unity; in matters of non essentials, Liberty; in all matters, Charity. Members recognize that while we will not always agree on all matters, we must be open to friendly dialog. However, those who regularly practice discrimination or denigration of other independent communities, or any people of faith, or deny people sacraments based solely upon marital status or sexual orientation must demonstrate a conversion of heart and practice before they will be accepted into the ICICC. The ICICC serves as a welcoming, advocacy, educational and social justice organization for all independent, Old and Orthodox Catholics and their friends/supporters who want to explore and learn more about history, direction, and the richness and variety of the movement. The ICICC also serves as a “think tank” for the various participating churches, developing programs and positions that members agree upon and will provide a listing of welcoming communities for those seeking a safe church in which to worship. The ICICC does not have, nor does it presume to have, any jurisdictional authority over any member or church. Each jurisdiction retains their autonomy and every member shares in equal status. However, in matters of debate or strained relations between parish members, clergy or churches, the ICICC will appoint a mediation council to assist in peacefully resolving differences and work for healing. Unlike other organizations, there is no special privilege awarded to a person due simply to clergy office. The ICICC recognizes and embraces the command that each person, as a Christian, is part of a priestly people. As such, all members are afforded equal status. Each member has the right to vote on matters before the Conference. All member churches of the ICICC will sign an agreement with The Reformed Catholic Church HOPE Project to be a “SAFE CHURCH”. By committing to this principle, member churches will agree to provide ALL church sacraments to the faithful, regardless of marital status or sexual orientation. This agreement will be signed on a yearly basis. The ICICC will hold its first annual 3 Day Convention during the month of August 11-13, 2006 in Columbus, Ohio at St. Sebastian Church, the Cathedral of The Reformed Catholic Church. It will be a wonderful opportunity to meet a diverse variety of Independent, Old, and Orthodox Church leaders and faithful.
The Archbishop of The Reformed Catholic Church serves as the Founding President of the ICICC for a period of 4 years, and will appoint a Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Board of Directors as appropriate to the development, vision and goals of the Conference, as determined at the Annual Convention. Officers of the ICICC serve for three years and do not receive financial compensation for their service. Those who feel a calling to serve the ICICC as an officer are invited to submit their request via email to the Presiding Archbishop of The Reformed Catholic presidingbishop@reformedcatholicchurch.org. Via telephone 1-866-769-0075 (toll free) or by Postal Mail: St. Sebastian Reformed Catholic Cathedral ICICC Attn: Archbishop Zimmerman PO Box 2 Worthington, OH 43085-9998
A new wind is blowing! We invite you, as a fellow pilgrim, to join us on this journey. Let us commit to working together to better serve Christ’s flock.
